3.0 out of 5 stars Did not think it had so much plastic This case was not as good as I had thought. Lots more plastic than thought. Cover has no screws to hold it closed, but I decided to keep for the ease of changing out Hard Drives. If you are looking for a more solid case. Look up: Hard Drive Enclosure RSHTECH USB 3.0 to SATA Aluminum External Hard Drive Dock Case for 3.5 inch HDD SSD up to 16TB Drives, Support UASP (RSH-339). I got this one also and love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have an HD lying around... ...you won't go wrong getting one (or more) of these. They are very simple to use and are capable of being loaded with almost any size eSATA HD, I'm using 6TB drives with no problem. The power and USB ports are standard, USB 3.0 cable and power supply included.Installation is very simple, slide the cover off, slide your drive in, slide the cover back on -you might want to stick a label on the cover to prevent accidental opening and if you have a bunch of these (I do) identify the case/HD- plug it in to the power and usb ports and away you go.They stack quite nicely and have a very bright LED indicator -some may say too bright- also unlike other makers the on/off switch is easy to find and use -basic push button-I think the only improvement would be little indents on the top of the shell and little feet to fit into those indents on the bottom to better accommodate stacking, the feet will also help with airflow/heat dissipation. 2 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Really 3.5 / 2.5 inch or maybe not. Does everything it is advertised to do for the 3.5 in. drive. Haven't tried a 2.5 in. drive so I can't comment on that. More on that below. Instructions are in Chinese and English translated from Chinese which means they are more entertaining than useful. Illustrations are useful, if you already know what you're doing. All printed material is small but useful for young eyes. Of note the instructions say nothing of the 2.5 in. drive lending doubt about the duel functionality. I would probably buy the item again but may choose another brand/model if it had verifiable 2.5 in compatibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my PC support stuff Got this item after having several PC issues, and an external hard drive case is useful to sort out with a functional PC, a laptop in my case. So far so good. I've seen reports of people trying to use these for a RAID setup, better to buy a dedicated case for that. I ran diagnostics on my old hard drive for a few hours, with no issues. If it starts to get warm, slide the cover back a bit for better cooling. Update- ran two hard drive cloning applications using this (about 4 hours each) with no issues, so it seems to be a solid unit!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great on my PC. On my Mac - not so much Well, it's easy to use. Slide off cover, slide SATA disk drive onto standard connectors, replace cover. Plug in. Fire up. However... it shuts off. Not sure when or based on what parameters, but it shuts off after a while. I'm running on 2011 iMac with macOS Sierra, so first I wrote a cron job to ls (read its directory) every 5 minutes. That didn't work. So I beefed up the activity that's run every 5 minutes to "cd /Volumes/old-sata; touch x; ls -l >> keepalive" - simple disk activity every 5 minutes, including both reads and writes. It still shut down overnight. And this morning it wouldn't start up when I pressed the click-on-click-off switch. When I got home from work, it fired up just fine, but now I'm concerned about enclosure reliability. I got it to put a "small" (1TB) "old" (2009) drive in, and I'm using it strictly for temporary / tertiary backup storage, so it will likely meet my needs, but I don't like that it didn't power up this morning. Not a confidence builder.Nit: all the electronics are at one end. So power and USB cables and switch - and power indicator light - are all on "back" end. So you can't place it with the wires out back and the power light visible in front. Nothing but plastic up front. Wasn't really sure where to put the little (1.5" x .75" x .20") foam pad. So it's sitting next to it behind my computer. I've not had problems with the disk drive vibration dislodging it from the internal connectors.Update (3/23/2018) Downgrading to 1 star. Two days in a row now, this device has failed to power up at the start of the day. Unacceptable. Unfortunately, the Amazon "return window" is only 30 days, and alas, I purchased it in January. Looks like $20 down the toilet. Sigh.Update (3/29/2018) Upgraded to 3 stars. I ordered another drive enclosure ( Sabrent USB 3.0 to SATA External Hard Drive Lay-Flat Docking Station with Built-in Cooling Fan for 2.5 or 3.5in HDD, SSD [Support UASP and 6TB] (EC-DFFN) ) and encountered the exact same results. Started off working just fine on the Mac, then shut off and would not turn back on unless it felt like it. Did some oogling around and found that this is a common - and unsolved - problem on the Mac. Returning this one, with reason being "does not match description on Web site," which it doesn't. Both Amazon and the package say it works on Macs.Maybe it's an incompatibility between my old Mac with its USB 2.0 interfaces and this USB 3. device. I don't have time or inclination to solve it. I just want it to work, eh?The Orico has been running non-stop on my PC for several days now. Blue light stays on whether the PC is awake, asleep, or hibernating. Disk powers up/down as expected due to activity or lack thereof. Maybe I should give it 4 stars, since the Mac problem doesn't seem to be its fault. But I need it to work on the Mac, really. 4.0 out of 5 stars Update: This works with my PC and TV. This works with my pc but doesn't work with my TV as it said in the video. I have a docking station that does work with my Smart TV but this External Hard Drive Enclosure doesn't. The set up is easy, just install the HDD and plug and play.Update: This works with my TV as well. It's the USB cable that you have to work with. You can't push the cable all the way in like when plugging the USB connect cable like you would normally do when connecting to a PC. I had to wiggle it a little bit out when plugging it into the back of the TV's USB Port, then it will blink blue and red. It will take a little while to show up on your TV but it worked for me. The Docking station I mention here has a different USB cable,it has a 3.0 Super Speed cable which I also tested on this ORICO 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure without error. It worked without having to wiggle it out a little for the ORICO to work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as intended but with a few caviats I bought this to work with a 3.5-inch HDD as extended storage for my PS5. It works great with it but it did require initiating and formatting it to NTFS to make it compatible. It takes a while for the PS5 to detect it, and especially for the first time, it will say it's not compatible even though it is. There are some things to be wary about. The build quality feels a little cheap with plastic compared to some of the other products at this price range I've researched. The next thing is that the connection between the HDD and the port itself doesn't feel very secure. Putting very little pressure on it from the opposite direction makes it slide apart easily. Hopefully, it won't be too much of a major deal if it's not played with a lot, but that could be a big problem for the storage device if it comes unplugged during use. With all of this said, I would feel comfortable recommending this product although, It might be a good idea to look for another enclosure that feels a little sturdier to use than this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not very snug fitting This thing is massive. It says 3.5” drive enclosure but it could fit a 5.25” hard drive! I was expecting an enclosure about the same size as the drive. There is absolutely no support inside to keep the drive in place and you have to keep it upside down to prevent the drive from hanging down from the connection. It comes with foam adhesives but they wouldn’t prevent the drive from falling.Edit: I unfortunately measured my drive wrong and ordered the wrong enclosure. However even for a 3.5” drive this thing is still a tad too large. The drive would still hang down from its connector if the enclosure was positioned right side up. I would still not recommend this one. Go with something more compact and form fitting regardless of what drive size it is meant for.Edit 2Seller gave me a full refund so I would increase the rating on my review but since the product isn’t for the drive I intended to use it for my review should just be deleted. 5.0 out of 5 stars Solid enclosure The enclosure is very easy to open and close. The HDD bay seems solid and holds the drive well in place. The unit also comes with some foam cushions to keep the HDD from rattling around inside the enclosure.I'm pleased with the unit. I have purchased other ORICO enclosures in the past and have been pleased each of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works Well and No Tools Needed The caption says it all. By far the best external HDD enclosure I have ever encountered. The no tools needed design makes installation a breeze and also makes it very easy to swap in a different drive whenever one wants to. It works with any SATA drive so switching between a magnetic drive and an SSD device is no trouble at all. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy construction external power supply Needed a unit that would not draw power from the device (Dish Wally DVR) I was connecting to. This had a plug into the wall adapter for power which solved the problem. Also liked the option for a 2.5 or 3.5 drive to be used in this case.

4.0 out of 5 stars DOES NOT POWER BACK ON AFTER POWER FAILURE EDIT " Orico reached out and offered a FULL REFUND so I added two additional stars - Hopefully they have something with a mechanical power switch that I can replace this with, thanks ORICO!Easy to set up and use - easy to install a drive - works great as a primary backup with 8TB HDD - BUT I have to turn it back on OFTEN - so my backups fail OFTEN because the device will not power itself back on without a human to push the power button (no mechanical on switch) this is a HUGE issue using it as a scheduled backup device - additionally the drive is hidden and not easily accessible to turn back on. Orico makes good stuff but this device fails for my intended purpose. Will look for a different solution asap.

3.0 out of 5 stars Does not turn on unless power button is pressed. Sleep function works. Pros:1) Actual USB 3.0 transfer speeds2) Sleep function works3) No issues with SMB Linux computer running DietPi4) ToolessCons:1) Only powers on by pressing the power button. The drive stays off after a power failure.2) Power plug is in the front3) LED only shows on status or access, no indication if the drive is in sleep mode.I wanted to like this drive because there really is no need for screws so toolless is the way to go. My biggest issue with this drive is that it will not power on unless the physical power button is depressed. So if the power goes out and you are using this as a device tucked away someplace that you intend to access sparingly, you have to press the power button for it to turn back on. So probably not the best for a NAS that has no power backup. It will power on if the button is held down during a power cycle. So having to glue it down permanently is the only solution. Or soldering the circuit closed Great speeds on an Odroid with USB 3.0 running DietPi. Also, I like that the drive does go to sleep because I don't need the drive using 5-6 watts of power 24/7. 2 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Xbox One I purchased this enclosure to test a SSD, but I think I will ultimately be using it to clone disks and/or a backup drive enclosure. I love how it will easily fit different sizes of SATA drives with plug-n'play ease for both Windows or MAC, and the USB 3.0 interface is really speedy! The USB 3.0 cable it shipped with is a little thin, but I replaced it with a longer one: Cable Matters 2 Pack, SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Type A Male to Female Extension Cable in Black 6 Feet anyway. Overall, I'm very pleased. I was going to go with a cheaper one, but I'm glad I spent the extra five bucks or so for this one.I'd recommend it to others who want to clone drives with Macrum Reflect (free) or Acronis software, or to anyone who likes to easily swap out drives or needs to test them.-----------------------------A SIDE NOTE: I've been having issues with a Dell XPS desktop running a SanDisk Extreme PRO-Series Solid State Drive SDSSDXPS-480G-G25 (2.5", SATA Revision 3.0, 6Gb/s 480GB Storage) powered by a quad core i7 with 16GB of memory. It was moving along nicely with Windows 7 and then started crashing. Some indicators seemed to point to a faulty power supply, but that tested fine. The computer shop guy gave it back to me and shrugged. I went home thinking it was just me, but in short order started crashing again. I did more troubleshooting (changing cables, etc...) and then decided to put in the old 7200rpm HDD it replaced. I updated to Windows 10 to see if it would help. It did - no errors. Finally, I used this enclosure (after trying to access the SSD with another one), and the drive was yet again, not showing up using this enclosure or another one I own, on multiple computers in Disk Management. After all this I think I've determined the SSD is kaput, but the nice part is that this enclosure made it easy to check it and should work great with multiple SSD drives of various sizes which is very useful to me.--------------------------UPDATE: 7/20/18 - I'm now using this enclosure with a WD Blue 7200 rpm 3.5 drive for storage on my Xbox One. Connected via the Xbox's USB port, I simply went into Settings and enabled the drive to be my main storage.Simple to use and works as expected. Great product!----------------------------------- 3 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars So easy to use and it works as it should Among the different products on this page, this review is for the Orico single hard drive enclosure - Model 3588 USB3.0 (UAB 3.0 & SATA). I received a sample for test and evaluation. These caddies have become essential accessories as people upgrade computers on a regular basis. The new pc usually comes with a new internal hard drive, but it would be a waste to scrap your previous one along with the old tower. So the solution is to extract your old drive and slip it into a case like this one, which allows you to turn any 3.5” internal SATA hard drive into a portable external drive for just the cost of the enclosure. This gives you additional storage for backups, and it is also invaluable to retrieve data in case of computer failure.Included in the package was the drive enclosure, a USB cable (1 m long), a power cord (1.5 m) with 12V adapter for direct connection to a wall outlet , a foam pad if needed to stabilize the drive, and a manual in English. The manual could be better, both in content and presentation. The writing is tiny and I had to scan and enlarge each page, but it does contain adequate instructions in approximate English. However, if you've used one before, installation is intuitive. Just remember to do the safe-remove when you want to disconnect it.This is one of the easiest models I have come across. No tools are needed. The plastic casing opens by sliding the bottom sideways, you then align the contacts and push the drive home. For thinner drives you can use the foam provided (I did not use it). You then close it back up, connect the enclosure to your new pc (or laptop) with the supplied cables and switch on. A LED light flashes red and when it turns steady blue, you are ready to access your new external drive in the usual way. The top of the drive (with the brand name and logo) is made of metal to disperse heat more efficiently. If you have a USB 3.0 port (blue), you can take advantage of its fastest speed, but it is also retro-compatible to older standards. My pc does not have 3.0 ports available, so the read-write speeds I'm getting are adequate but not ground-shaking. Hoever, used with the laptop's 3.0 port, everything gets much faster.I have used this caddy to back up 770 GB of data onto a WD Blue hard drive in preparation for upgrading to Win 10. It made the whole thing much less traumatic and now I have a very useful 1 TB external drive where I store my weekly backups. Heat dissipation is very good, although the drive does feel warm but comparable to similar products. So far the product is performing impeccably. 3 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great! This is so much better than the 'toaster' i had, which is something that looks like a toaster with 2 holes, but instead of bread, it's for external hard drives. I have 1 external hard drive, i had the toaster under my desk with my computer, this is not only so much better looking than the other, it fits right on my desk, which gives me more floor space, space I could really use. It was easy to install, it looks nice on my desk, and it was super easy to put the hard drive in with the sliding cover. It will take me quite a while to fill this hard drive, but when I do need another one, I'm heading straight for this! I really didn't need the stuff that came with it, as I had already had an external hard drive set up, all I did was a switch, I know what the instructions said, to use their stuff, but mine was already hooked up, and if it's any indication why i need more floor space, I have a rats nest of cables under there, i didn't need anything else to fill it up even more, I totally recommend this!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly I mount an external 14TB 7200 RPM HDD via a USB to my gaming desktop. It works flawlessly. I had a previous enclosure from Vantec that required the drive to be screwed in (not tool free). And while it worked with this drive, it took a long time to mount and was more finicky. Shutting off andd on was a crapshoot. You never knew if the drive would mount properly or show up on screen. Replaced it with this enclosure. World of difference.1) Smaller footprint.2) Tool free. So it is easy to replace drive if need be.3) Easy to install. No driver, etc. Just plug and play.4) Allows for large capacity drive. My drive is 14 TB 7200 RPM and works fine. Doesn't overheat.5) Simple push of button allows me to turn on and off. Wait a few seconds and it mounts when turning on. No failure to mount. Easy, hassle free, user friendly and works very well. Happy with purchase. Recommend. 4 people found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine but construction is pretty cheap. Bought this to use an old 4TB drive as an external bulk storage drive at work. In terms of function, it's great. Easy to install, the drive fits snug after installing the included foam pad, and it was detected as soon as I plugged it in.The only real downside is it's construction. It's very light weight and the door for drive access just slides off and is not securely fastened. There are no screws for holding it on, only a few plastic clips that easily pop off.If you are using this as a stationary external drive enclosure, it does the job and will work fine. If there is any chance of it being moved around or traveling, get a different enclosure. 4 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 3.5" Enclosure I purchased this product in hopes of being able to access files off of my five-year-old desktop that died nearly two years ago. Initially, I was hesitant to try this because I thought that the hard drive in the PC had failed and I’d just be wasting money. I was pleasantly surprised by the Orico 3.5” Hard Drive Enclosure. The package comes with a few items inside. You get the enclosure, a power cable, a USB 3.0 cable, an instruction manual in both Chinese and English, and two foam strips. I believe these require external power because of the 3.5” drive. A 2.5” drive in an enclosure does not need external power. The instruction manual is accurate and helpful, but it is for new drives. You do not have to follow this manual if you’re using an old drive from a PC as I was.The build quality of this enclosure is good. The material is a very sturdy plastic and the top of the case is metal, or at least feels like it’s metal. The bottom slides off and clicks into place with ease, but not easy enough that you should fear it sliding off unexpectedly. There is an LED power indicator on the front beside the power button.I took off the side of my old PC and blew out the immense amount of dust it had gathered. I pulled out the 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM drive, blew off the dust that was remaining on it, and slid it into the enclosure. There is extra space on the bottom and left side of the enclosure once the 3.5 drive is in. This worried me because it may become loose; however, Orico provides two foam or foam-like strips with adhesive on the back. I just used one of the two on the bottom and the hard drive did not move inside when I tried to move it.Using the provided cables, I plugged the drive into a socket and one of my USB 3.1 (my PC doesn’t have any 3.0) type A ports. I pressed the power button and the LED indicator came on. I pulled up Windows Explorer and I was shocked. All of my files from my five-year-old desktop were there.I’ve only had this running for 6 hours as of my typing of this review so I cannot speak for long-term use, but if anything changes I will update this.Performance wise I’ve not done any true testing, but I do have some figures to look at. Please keep in mind I am using a five-year-old hard drive that has been sitting for two years. I was transferring all the documents, pictures, music, etc. from the Seagate in the enclosure to the Toshiba HDD in my desktop. During 5-10 GB transfers, I saw transfer speeds of up to 220 MB/s. There was some fluctuation, but I never saw the speed go below 130 MB/s. (Attached is an image of the result from CrystalDiskMark after format completed). Here’s a bit of advice for anyone who may not be too tech savvy and is hoping to do what I did. My drive had both a system partition and data partition since it was the only drive in an old PC. This annoyed me. Also, many folders and files could not be accessed whatsoever because of the security used by Windows. For me, this was fine. I didn’t lose anything that I didn’t already have backed up elsewhere. I could still access my documents, pictures, music, downloads, and could even see what programs I had installed and all their files. I’m currently formatting the drive because of the partitions and the inaccessible/unable to delete files. It isn’t hard and anyone can do it. Lifewire has great guides on how to remove the partitions and format the drive if you don’t already know how to on Windows machines. Make sure you back up all of the files you can/want to keep before you begin the process. Deleting the partitions and formatting the drive permanently deletes all the files on the drive. It takes a while (I’m currently at hour 3 and it’s at 95%), but it is worth it. It deletes the system files you may not be able to delete and frees up that space.I would recommend this product. It was one of the cheaper choices that I saw here on Amazon and it does its job well. I'm happy with it and hope to be happy with it for at least a year. 17 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Very simple and effective I really like this hard drive USB enclosure. Would I buy another one - for sure. Top cover slides off, insert drive, it only goes in one way, slide cover back on and your done. Ready to connect to computer. The unit uses passive cooling but stays cool, no fans. Doesn't seem to get hot. No screws to remove and lose. Very simple design with quality materials. USB 3 and relatively fast. Definitely a good buy. One person found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Great device! Works perfectly for my needs...to transfer data off an old hard drive from a broken computer. This external hard drive enclosure worked perfectly for what I needed....a way to get my files off the internal hard drive of a PC that had crashed. I was very sad when my computer died because I hadn't backed all my pictures and music up. At least, it had been quite a long while since I had done that, so I knew there were many left on the drive. I ordered this enclosure because I needed a way to connect my internal hard drive to a different computer. It was not the easiest thing in the world to distract the hard drive from my old computer, but putting it into this ORICO hard drive enclosure was super easy and fast. Got it connected to my new PC and was able to find and transfer my old files. The data transfer was remarkably fast. I did not have any issues with overheating, as I have read in some other review may be of concern. The unit has a power on and off switch, and I just turned it off when I was done transferring the files. So I would think that this drive is fine to use occasionally without fear of overheating, if you just turn it on when you need it and then turn it off when you're done. It may not be the best choice for continuous use applications, where you leave it turned on all the time, because it doesn't have a ventilation system. But that is not how I'm using it, so I'm only speculating. It works perfectly for my needs! Disclaimer: I was allowed to purchase this product at a discounted rate in exchange for agreeing to leave a review. I am pleased with it. Great purchase! It allowed me to save my files, and that is priceless. 19 people found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Comparison of Inateck and Orico enclosures I recently upgraded the drives in my Synology NAS, and wanted to put the old WD Red drives in enclosures to use them as backup drives. I researched a few of the enclosures on Amazon and ended up purchasing both the Inateck and Orico enclosures. Both enclosures are well made and function well. I'm going to highlight differences in their basic features in this review. Hopefully this will help a few people that are deciding between these units. The Orico enclosure is made of molded plastic and is extremely easy to setup without using any tools. Iinstalling the drive and closing the case is easily done in seconds. The Inateck enclosure is made of aluminum and requires a small screw driver (provided) to screw the drive into a tray that slides into the enclosure and then screw the enclosure closed. Installing the drive and closing the case probably takes a minute or two.To me, the aluminum Inateck enclosure looks/feels nicer. The Orico enclosure appears similar to a WD Elements portable hard drive, which certainly isn't bad.The Inateck enclosure has a few slots in the end to vent heat, the Orico does not.The power and USB cords for the Inateck appear to be higher quality than those for the Orico. The power switch on the Inateck is a rocker switch. The power switch on the Orico is a push-button switch. If the power cuts off with the push-button switch, the drive will remain off until you push the button to turn it on again. I prefer the rocker switch. At the time of this review, the cost of the Inateck was $7 more than the Orico. I feel that both units are a good value. 9 people found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Yay and nay [update] I got a couple of these to add to the pile of drives and enclosures around here. Backups and media. These enclosures are good plastic. They don't have vents. Drives might run hot if worked. Standing them vertically helps. The Yay: These are somewhat faster than other cheap enclosures. Around 230 mb/s whereas other enclosures with the same drive mech might be in the 150 mb/s range.I thought I was having some trouble with big transfers. I replaced this with another enclosure which seemed to be better but eventually, everything crashed in the same way. So problem is not the enclosure. So are these good or not? I say yes they are, but don't expect big production out of them just because of the heat management.Recommended and I would buy again. One person found this helpful

4.0 out of 5 stars Good alternative resuse I recently shifted away from a large tower setup to a laptop and I wanted to salvage the hard drives. This was a good way to do this an have them as spare externals. The quality is good. I held back a star due to the rattling of the internals. Everything is connected well, but because it is plastic the fitment is just ok. Hard drive is a solid mount though, it is the rack inside it is attached to. Not a huge deal as it never leaves my desk but I probably wouldn't be happy if it was having to kick around inside a backpack on a regular basis.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enclosure gets hot I've been using it with a 16TB Hard Drive for a couple of months now and it works fine. However, the enclosure is made of plastic and it tends to get hot when writing larger files. I think a metal version would dissipate the heat better and extend the life of my hard drive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for drive swaps and creating backups. I initially had an issue with the included USB cable as the drives were being disconnected and reconnected constantly. Swapping the USB cable with another one I had made it work without issue. The enclosure read 1TB and 18TB drives without issue. 5.0 out of 5 stars Does the job I bought this because I needed to check and reformat a 3.5-inch hard drive, but I did not have an external enclosure. I put the hard drive in this enclosure, plugged the power and USB in, and it worked. I would not recommend this as a long-term enclosure as it is made out of plastic and has no ventilation or cooling fans, but if you need to do something quick like a reformat, which will take an hour or two at most, this will do the job.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not very stable. Disconnects. Edit 06/04/2024: Seller has since reached out for a refund of the defective unit. Changed from 1 star to 3 stars for support and customer service. The enclosure still has a poor design. Was hoping to use this as an attached storage for a network share to replace a portable external drive that was running out of storage space. I tried to pair this drive with a 16TB Seagate Ironwolf drive, and while everything was okay at first, the computer this enclosure was connected to would randomly disconnect with a malfunction error on Windows.I've tried connecting the power supply to a UPS just in case there was some external power fluctuation issue. That didn't solve it. I also tried different usb ports.I also checked to make sure there weren't any failure issues with the brand new Seagate drive I'm using with this enclosure. There doesn't appear to be any power management or power saving functions causing it to disconnect.Another issue I have is with the design of this enclosure. The drive basically hangs upside-down if you want the aluminum side facing up as advertised. The foam pieces are too thick to cushion or support a full sized 3.5 inch drive.Going to have to look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still going strong. I purchased mine… Oct. 2015?! Whoa! More than 8 1/2 years later, it’s still doing its thing. The circuit board is basic and the wiring is straightforward. Nothing fancy. I imagine that contributes to its longevity. I’m just here to get the model number. I left the power adapter two states over and need a new one. Thought I’d drop my 2¢ while passing through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looking forward to upgrading the rest of my drives with these Super easy install, great form factor, zero problems with heat dissipation or noise, the separate on/off button is annoying the first couple times the power goes out and you forget that you have to manually turn it back on before freaking out thinking that your drive got fried, but otherwise can't complain and am very happy with this enclosure!Don't forget once you've dropped your drive in here that you have to initialize the drive in Windows Disk Management, and of course if it's a brand new drive don't forget to format it also before you start using it. Will definitely purchase again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure though a bit slower than stated It's a decent USB 3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure though a bit slower than stated.Best for HDD backups and can fit large HDDs, as I've used a WD 18Tb HDD, 7,000 rpm for some decent speed and storage. The smaller screws to attach the drive is a pain since you need a small screwdriver to do so.Attaching the HDD inside is simple enough. But there's no air vent so the case does get warm if you leave it on for awhile. The heat is absorbed and dissipated through the metal casing. It's a decent price. Will try to see if it'll fit a lower capacity 2.5" SDD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good product, however, Orico would be kinder if it advised configuration may lie ahead. The configuration is not very difficult given the cornucopia of advice found on the internet. Buyers, however, must find this out for themselves. A few informative lines advising buyers that they may have to "get ready to bust their cookies" (well, not necessarily in those exact words) setting this unit up would have been appreciated. (In fairness to Orico, other makers of these units share in this omission.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Runs HOT! I like this case, it works, looks nice. Two down sides. It doesn’t come with rubber feet, so I added my own. And I have a 12TB 7200rpm enterprise drive in this case that I use for offline NAS backups. So this case/drive combo has multi-TB rsyncs to it which takes a while. During this time the drive rapidly gets up to 51C, too hot for my liking and practically too hot to touch. I’ve put a 140mm case fan pointed at it and it goes right down to 37C! Ideally, this kind of thermal management or cooling would be built in to the case. YMMV

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent enclosure. Lasted about 20 months. I'm somewhat comparing this to my experience with the Inateck aluminum enclosure (B00UAA4J6G), which I have used nearly as long (17 months) as this and have several of those.I've always felt this drive performed differently, mostly exaggerated drive load times at times. Speeds for transfers seemed fine, but the general feel is that it's overall slower than the other brand I use. There are some reviews that note the enclosure has no mechanism to keep the drive in place. I have no issues with that, personally. I don't move my drives, they don't get bumped, and it's super-easy to add or remove a drive. No tools required. That's a plus in my book. If you move your external drives around or they can get bumped hard enough to affect the drive connection, this may be an issue. Aesthetically the enclosure looks nice and the plastic is fairly sturdy. Maybe midgrade thickness. Not cheap, thin plastic. The power toggle button needs to be pushed in order for the drive to power up each time you cut or lose power. For instance, if you shut down your PC at night and the drive, you'll have to push the button on the enclosure for the drive to come back online. This is different from my other enclosures. The reason I'm writing this review is because the enclosure appears to have failed or is on its way to total failure. I tried transferring some files from one drive to another and shortly after starting my transfers seemed to freeze, computer i/o wait went through the roof and persisted until I killed the affected drives. After some troubleshooting: command line vs file manager transfers and swapping drives and enclosures, this enclosure is the common denominator in the problem behavior. It seems to be a decent-enough device. I would not buy it again, though. One person found this helpful

3.0 out of 5 stars Works but documentation is sparse. No writing on power supply. The power supply does not give any readable details. Customer support tells me the power supply is 12v 2 amp = 24w and sent a pic or what should have been printed on the power supply. Obviously these are different power supplies. It would have been nice if the power requirements were printed in the documentation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Adequate but unsafe For the price, I wasn't expecting an anodized, aluminum enclosure. But I was expecting an enclosure that would stay closed if you pick it up the wrong way. The enclosure uses a sliding clamshell design. You slide the cover off, plug the HD in and slide the cover back on. The cover clips into place but not securely. If you pick up the enclosure by the cover there's a high probability the cover will come off in your hand and your expensive HD crashes to the ground. The design stinks, quite frankly.External HD enclosures are supposed to be tank-like/brick-like constructions You install the HD and never have to worry about it under normal use. That's not the case here. This is not a hot-swap drive/enclosure and should not have been designed as such. You can swap out the HD in the time it took you to read this sentence. That's not good, IMO. I have no intentions of ever removing the drive from the case unless it fails, so I duct taped mine closed.Does it work at USB 3.0 speeds? Yes, it does. No issues with the electronics but the design? I should've been more careful before I ordered. I'll keep it simply b/c I need it right now but I wouldn't buy it again. 2 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Drive drops offline, but replacement works perfectly Edit: The vendor contacted me regarding the problem I was having with my drive dropping offline to Windows 11 and offered to send me a new drive enclosure. I received it and replaced the original one using the same hard drive about a week ago. I have not seen a repeat of the problem with the new enclosure and must therefore assume that the original enclosure had a defect. The vendor has been very helpful for which I must give them high ratings for good customer service. I have changed my rating from 2 stars to 5 stars as a result.Original review: This external enclosure has two problems. One is that the disk spins down after being inactive for a short period of time, which is inconvenient in that you have to wait for it to spin up in order to access a file. A lot of external enclosures have this problem and there seems to be no way to disable this feature on this enclosure. But the worst problem is that it drops offline to Windows 11 at random intervals, requiring you to cycle power on the enclosure to get it back online. This is unacceptable and pretty much makes the drive unusable for any applications that require constant availability (such as automated backups, media server storage, etc.).

3.0 out of 5 stars You could do worse, but you could probably do better I got the USB-C enclosure. There is no anti-static foil on the bottom tray (as the video and some customer photos seemed to suggest). The enclosure cannot be powered by the USB-C cable alone which is disappointing since the power adapter cord it comes with is short, and USB-C is capable of delivering quite a lot of power. It comes with two, thin foam things you can peel and stick inside the top cover yourself, presumably to reduce vibrations and protection. I have a feeling they're not going to last long since the top cover is opened/closed by sliding it several inches and not a hinge or a short slide.I'm sure it's quite fast, but I'm only using it for a 3.5" mechanical drive so it caps out at the expected ~125 MB/sec (to be clear, that's a limitation of my hard-drive, not this enclosure). If you were looking to do USB-C to USB-C connections, you will need to buy a separate cable. Only a USB-A to USB-C cable is provided. It is detected as "VLI Product String" when you go to eject it. In Device Manager is appears as a "USB Attached SCSI (UAS) Mass Storage Device" under "Storage controllers". 4 people found this helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Really works with 3.5" drives! Tried the Sabrient model but it only worked with a 2.5" as the 3.5" requires higher power. This one actually works and computer recognizes it. I am now able to retrieve old files, pictures, videos, etc from my old 3.5" drives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Performs exactly as expected It is extremely fast and works as expected. The only issue I have is the heat that gets trapped in the case. I plan to create holes to allow for the heat to dissipate. It goes to sleep as expected when not in use and the transfer speed is fast.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not sure what happened Was working fine at first, then started randomly disconnecting for a second or two. Now when I start up it says it wasn’t ejected properly right away, even though it was connected the whole time and I can’t get it to show up anywhereUpdate: great customer service and seeing the popularity of this company, it must've been an extremely rare problem that I encountered. I gave in and opened the computer so now I have no need for an enclosure

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent External Enclosure I installed an 8TB 7200 RPM NAS Hard drive in this enclosure. Was surprised to see how good the performance was when I ran a benchmark. Mind you, I have the drive connected to my router as part of a home network, so the speed is going to be dictated by the USB 3.0 port on the router. With that in mind, I ran a benchmark after mapping as a network drive and still get over 110 mb/s transfer rate. This enclosure is the real deal. If you want solid performance, give it a try.PositivesFast transfer speeds with the chipset in the enclosureEasy installation methodEasy setupHandles large Hard drivesDoesn't take up a lot of spaceActually keeps the drive pretty cool*CaviatEven though my NAS drive is pretty large for a 3.5" (thick), there is still a tad of movement once installed in the enclosure. Orico added two foam pads to use to stabilize the drive...nice and snug now

3.0 out of 5 stars Drive moves inside, no feet, and could open on its own when picked up. I can be a harsh critic sometimes, and this is one of those times. I needed a simple and secure enclosure for my 2 TB Western Digital hard drive, which used to be installed in my desktop PC. My criticism is mostly for the usability of this enclosure, not the performance or reliability (I will let others benchmark and test it long-term). I've only had it for ONE DAY, and I am ready to return it. The negatives I found may or may not bother YOU personally, but I thought I would share my experience regardless. But first, the positives:PROS:• Very easy to open. Simply slide the cover off all the way, and the space to install your drive is exposed.• Immediately recognized by my computer (Windows 7) as soon as I plugged it in - no drivers to download, no tweaking required. The drive became available in the Windows Explorer.• The plastic on all sides of the enclosure is nice and thick, which protects the drive and blocks the noise. It doesn't flex much.• The electronics (controller, wiring, etc) are completely sealed inside, so you don't risk damaging them while installing or removing the drive. On some other enclosures, I saw exposed chips and electronics - not safe! How easy is it to snap off a capacitor?• The ON/OFF power button on the back allows you to power off the drive, save electricity, and reduce the wear and tear on your drive. I prefer this to unplugging the power cable. When you need to use the drive again, just press the power button.• Everything was packaged very nicely inside the manufacturer's box, placed in plastic bags, and separated into two "levels".CONS:• The drive inside the enclosure is attached and held in place by the SATA connector itself. There are no screws to secure it in place, and if I rock the enclosure side to side, I can hear the drive moving inside and hitting the walls. The clearance is not huge, but this may still be enough to snap or damage the drive's SATA connector - not good. (For example, when transporting the drive, or if it falls). I understand that it cannot be too snug, or you wouldn't be able to insert or pull out the drive, but this still isn't acceptable to me. There is no mechanism to stop it from moving side to side. A small foam pad with a sticky tape on one side is provided to act as a cushion, presumably on top of the drive. Providing two holes to screw the drive to the enclosure would completely solve this problem, and if you are a frequent drive swapper, then just don't use the screw.• The greatest strength is also the greatest weakness, namely how easy it is to open the enclosure. If you lift it parallel to the ground, no problem. BUT if you grab it by the cover, turn it vertically, and try to pick it up, you may be left with the COVER in your hand, and the rest of the enclosure on the FLOOR. Remember, 3.5" hard drives are heavy, and the cover slides off pretty easily.• The connectivity/activity LED is on the back of the enclosure. Sorry, I don't have eyes there. The indicator should be on the front, unless you only intend to use it for troubleshooting as opposed to regularly monitoring the drive's activity.• There are no instructions on how to OPEN THE ENCLOSURE. When I unpacked it, I didn't know whether to slide, or twist, or pry something open, or press in a certain spot to unlatch it - and I didn't want to break it. Ultimately, you just slide the large cover off all the way, but how hard is it to mention it on Page 1 of the user manual?• Which brings me to the user manual. It is a tiny booklet smaller than the palm of your hand, with ridiculously tiny text and PICTURES - yes, it has screenshots from Windows, probably the smallest I've ever seen in a manual.• No feet of any kind - rubber or plastic - on the completely flat bottom of this enclosure. It is free to slide on your desk and possibly get scratched or pass vibration onto the surface. Most of your electronics - even your laptop power brick, most likely - will come with tiny plastic feet.To solve the problem of the drive sliding on my desk, to reduce vibration, and to prevent the cover from coming off if I lift the enclosure by it, I put two wide rubber bands around it. They are beige and stand out, but if they were black, it would be perfect. Lastly, the company's slogan, "Easy your PC" makes no sense. I didn't want to list it as a negative, but I still wanted to mention it.I realize that it's just a $20 drive enclosure, but I intend to put something very valuable inside (my data!), and this won't cut it. 6 people found this helpful
